Fall Activities in Hocking Hills: Spend a Weekend Morning at Our Farm
Autumn is our favorite season of the year. The heat breaks, the hills behind the pasture start turning, and the animals get noticeably more social once the mornings cool off. If you are putting together a fall trip to the Hocking Hills, we would love to be one of your stops.
We are open Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 5pm through October 31. No reservation needed. Pay admission at the door, grab a cone of feed, and the animals take it from there.
Cool Mornings Bring the Animals Out
Our goats, alpacas, donkeys, sheep, horses, and mini pigs all handle autumn better than the summer heat. Nobody is hiding in the shade. You get more nudging, more head-butting for feed, and a lot more eye contact.
The alpacas are the best example. Their fleece is built for cold, so once the temperature drops they come right up to the fence and stay there. You can pet them, brush them, and feed them from right your hand. On a clear October morning with color coming in behind the pasture, it is the best photo you will take all weekend.
Admission is $7 per person for ages 2 and up. Kids 2 and under get in free.
Two Activities, One Visit
Once you have made the rounds in the pens, walk over to the mining sluice. Sifting through a bag of rough for gemstones, fossils, and shark teeth keeps kids at the water trough far longer than most parents expect, and the cooler air makes standing there comfortable instead of sweaty.
Bags start at $10 for 3 pounds of Pay Dirt and run up to $60 for the 20-pound Mega Strike, which comes loaded with fossils, shark teeth, arrowheads, and a mega amethyst druzy. Our most popular is the 10-pound Mother Lode at $30. Whatever you find, you keep, and our team will help you pick a bag when you get here.
The two activities work perfectly for little ones back to back because they touch on different things. The animals are about contact and the sluice is about discovery. Together, they fill a morning with fun without anyone getting restless.
Fall Day on the Farm, October 3rd
Our big autumn event happens on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026. Fall Day on the Farm adds wagon rides, fall games, crafts, and extra animal encounters to the regular visit, with a food truck on site for lunch.
It runs during our normal open hours, and it is a ticketed event, so grab your tickets ahead of time rather than paying at the gate. If you are already planning an early-October weekend down here, this is a good day to build around.
Build a Full Hocking Hills Day Around Us
We sit right on State Route 664, the road most visitors take to the state park trailheads, so you can fit us into a day without backtracking. A weekend schedule could look something like this:
- Morning: Old Man’s Cave, Cedar Falls, or Ash Cave. Ash Cave is paved and stroller friendly at about a quarter mile each way. Foliage in the gorges usually peaks in mid to late October.
- Late morning: Come see us. Plan for at least an hour, though most families end up staying longer.
- Lunch: Grab something in Logan or pack a picnic for a park shelter.
- Afternoon: Float the Hocking River with our sister business, Hocking Hills Canoe Livery. Their fall season runs through October 17.
After October, We Switch to Private Tours
November through March we close the regular petting zoo and run private tours instead, usually Fridays through Sundays, with other days possible if we have availability. Those run up to 90 minutes, start with feeding, and let you into the pens for closer contact than regular hours allow. Weather permitting, we take you around the property on the side-by-side for the view from the top of the hills. Guests get 15% off in the gift shop afterward.
Pricing is $150 for up to 6 guests, $170 for 7, and $190 for 8. Larger groups, email us and we will sort it out.
We also host Christmas on the Farm on November 28th and December 12th, 2026, both being ticketed events.
If you want the open-farm version with fall color behind it, though, your window is now through the end of October.
